Rabbi Rose Lyn Jacob was ordained through the Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute in 2012. This gives her broad latitude to perform religious ceremonies without the constraints of some other Jewish denominations. She is the only full-time rabbi in the Central Virginia Piedmont and lives adjacent to the beautiful Shenandoah National Park, one hour north of Charlottesville, where she has carved out a life as a “Free-Range Rabbi”—serving the spiritual and life-cycle needs of Jews in five surrounding counties. 

 

Prior to moving to Syria, Virginia, “Rabbi Rose,” as she is often referred to in the community, served as a congregational rabbi and educator in Warrenton, Virginia for ten years, having moved to the area from Miami, Florida, where she spent twenty-one years in Jewish Education and Administration.   Currently, she conducts Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, funerals, and baby naming services, and High Holy Day services in the region and is willing to travel. She has officiated at ceremonies in California, Florida, New Jersey, Maryland, and Rhode Island and throughout Virginia.  She is comfortable meeting for planning sessions both in person and online.
